Ryan Wertenberger was born January 22, 1990 and his hometown of Mission Viejo, California is also home to fellow Cal Bears teammate Kevin Demoll. Unlike Kevin who attended Mission Viejo High School, though, Ryan Wertenberger attended Laguna Hills High School and graduated in 2008.

Ryan Wertenberger had a strong high school career at Laguna Hills. He threw for 1,928 yards which led to 22 touchdowns. During one impressive play during his junior year, Wertenberger launched a 99-yarder that resulted in a touchdown.

Football isn't Ryan Wertenberger's only athletic strength. He also played basketball for the Laguna Hills Hawks and was an all-league player.

Ryan Wertenberger redshirted his 2008 freshman season and will return to the field in 2009. Will he see playing time? It's up to the coaching staff to make that call, but with spring training under his belt, Ryan Wertenberger will be angling for some kind of time on the field.
