Nyan Boateng was born on February 23, 1987 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Lincoln High School where he was a standout in football and basketball. Rivals ranked him 20th wide receiver in the country, higher than other rankings, but still impressive.

After high school, Nyan Boateng chose to attend Florida where he played significantly in 2005 but not 2006. Nyan Boateng then transferred to the University of California-Berkley in spring 2007 and could not play that fall based on NCAA transfer guidelines.
