Matt Summer-Gavin was born on November 26, 1988 and hails from San Fransisco, California like many fellow teammates. During his high school stint on the St. Ignatius High School team he was considered a top-100 prospect.

Matt Summer-Gavin was instrumental in helping the St. Ignatius team average 300 yards per game and they ended with just 2 loses, 9 wins, and a single tie.

When Matt Summers-Gavin committed to the Cal Bears in 2007, he was one of 5 incoming recruits for the offensive line. However, the first season didn't go quite as planned. An injury the summer preceding the 2007 season forced Matt to delay enrollment until January 2008.

During the 2008 season, Matt Summers-Gavin saw little playing time. He still fosters hopes of a future NFL career. If that doesn't pan out, he hasn't entirely ruled out the idea of joining the Peace Corps.
