Kevin Riley was born on January 27, 1987 and grew up in Portland, Oregon. He attended Beaverton High School and spent his years playing the quarterback position on his high school football team. By the time Kevin Riley graduated, he was ranked the top quarterback in the entire state of Oregon with for 2,580 yards with just six interceptions on 239 attempts.
Kevin Riley redshirted his freshman year in 2006 with the California Golden Bears football team.
In 2007, Kevin Riley had a chance to prove himself and he performed well. The team was down by 21 and Riley was summoned from the bench at the start of the second quarter. He played smoothly and brought the California Bears football team to a victory. Kevin Riley also earned a start against Oregon State when the original starting quarterback was injured.
By 2008, Kevin Riley was the Cal Bears starting quarterback. He threw for 1,360 yards with 14 touchdowns. In all of that time, he only had six interceptions and he started 9 times. Additionally, Kevin Riley set a new school record by launching 58 pass attempts in a single game.
In 2009, he started all 13 games. He threw 382 passes and completed 209--a 54.7% total. Yardage was 2,850. Touchdowns? 18. By season's end he was fourth in school history for 2,850 yards passing and 2,901 yards of total offense.
