As his name indicates, Giorgio Tavecchio is an Italian who was born in Milan and lived in Rome before coming to the U.S. Giorgio Tavecchio was born on July 16, 1990 and he spent his high school years in Moraga, California at Campolindo High School.

In high school, Giorgio Tavecchio was a two-sport athlete and competed extensively in soccer and football for three years. Although he originally intended to pursue soccer and play Division I at UC Davis, a change of heart led him instead to football and the Cal Bears football team.

After joining the Cal Bears football team just days before their opening game, Tavecchio found his skills in high demand after the starter was injured. He made 9 of 13 field goal attempts and kicked a couple 42 yard field goals.
