The California Golden Bears Cheerleader squad has a rich past and a strong future. The squad is now referred to as the California Dance Team, and performs on an elevated wooden platform on the football field. In the 1980’s, however, the team had included men and they incorporated stunts and many gymnastic-type moves. The Cal Cheerleader, today, squad has become solely a 10 to 12 women squad.

The Cal Cheerleader squad also performs at the basketball games, dancing on the sidelines during the game and on the court for half-time performances. The Cal Cheerleaders travel along to each tournament their beloved California Golden Bears football and basketball teams attend. In previous seasons, the California Cheerleaders have traveled to Tennessee, Illinois and even Hawaii!

Besides sporting events, the Cal Cheerleaders entertain at a variety of rallies and alumni functions in the area. The Cal Cheerleaders are very involved in the community as well, and frequently attend cheer and dance clinics at local schools. There are eleven traditional California fight songs, and the Cal Cheerleaders have an elaborate dance to everyone.

Whether you are attending a football, women’s volleyball or a basketball game, you will be sure to see the California Cheerleaders pepping up the crowd. With rigorous tryouts, intense practices and just plain talent, these girls are sure to rock the house at any event.
