Before Bill Tyndall decided to play in the Pac-12 conference as an offensive lineman for the Cal Golden Bears, he attended Montgomery Peninsula Junior College. At Montgomery Peninsula, Tyndall earned first-team All-Coast Conference honors as a guard. Tyndall then transfered to UC Berkeley where he redshirted due to conference regulations.

At his Pacific Grove High School in California, Bill Tyndall was an All-Country selection and first-team All-Mission Trail League in both of his final two seasons. Tyndall also earned second-team All-State selection as a junior after leading his team to an 11-2 record and the Small School Central Coast Section title game.
