The Cal Bears were not able to stop the powerful Utah Utes during this years Poinsettia Bowl. The Cal Bears lost to Utah 37-27. At one point it looked like it would be close as the Cal Bears scored twice in 11 seconds midway through the first quarter, but Utah's defense was too tough to handle. The Utes defense sacked Cal Bears quarterback Kevin Riley five times and intercepted him twice.
