The Cal Bears defense stuffed the Texas Longhorns for much of the first half, but the giveaways were too much to overcome before a crowd of over 55,000 at Qualcomm Stadium. The Cal Bears gave too many things away and, as it turned out, those giveaways were the Bears' demise.
The Bears were down 14-10 late in the third quarter and were able to pin the Longhorns at their own 10-yard line after a punt and unnecessary roughness penalty against Texas. Texas was forced to punt, which Marvin Jones returned from the Texas 43 to the 27.
Then, everything for the Bears seemed to fail.
Zach maynard was sacked and fumbled, with Chris Whaley recovering for the Longhorns at the Cal 44. Three Texas plays later, it was 21-10. The score would remain as the final, with the Texas Longhorns taking home the victory in the 2011 Holiday Bowl Game.
